“It’s amazing,” Senior Team Captian of the CSPA Men’s Varsity team Nick Penabaker said on the team’s recent MIAC Conference title win, “we’ve been in this league for 3 years, and we’ve always come short. But this year we really pulled it together.”
The CSPA Men’s Varsity Soccer team has been crowned MIAC Conference Red Division Champions for the first time in program history, going undefeated in conference play (7-0-0). After finishing second place in the previous two years, The Sentinels dominated the division with something to play for. The team capped off their perfect conference record, beating Lutheran Westland 2-0 on Tuesday, October 12th, On the Men’s Varsity Soccer Senior Night.
“Bottom down amazing,” Senior Team Captian Max Cook commented, “we worked as a team. If we lost, then we all lost. If we won, then we all won. This brought us together.”
Senior Team Captain Daniel Kehn added, “It was really gutting to come so close last year and then lose in the last few seconds against Huron Valley. This year was a big statement from our team.”
The Sentinels have gone on to defeat Dansville 2-1 in the District Semi-Final and defeat Byron 1-0 to claim their first district championship in program history and completing a championship double for the season. The Men’s Varsity team will meet Hillsdale Academy in the Regional Semi-Final on Tuesday, October 27th, at 7 pm at Lansing Christian High School.
