Abby Landers: My Favorite Christmas Traditions
December 6, 2022
Christmas is the time of the year to spend time with your family and friends, with many families having special traditions for the holiday season. These are some of my favorite holiday traditions with my family during this time of year.
Decorating the Christmas tree.
Every year, my family puts up the tree and everyone comes over and decorates the tree together, laughing and talking about all the memories we have together. The Christmas tree bulbs bring back many memories because a lot of them are handmade.
Making hard candy
Usually, during the holiday season, we get together and make a bunch of different flavored hard candy. This is usually an entire day process and makes the house smell amazing! Everyone loves them and they make great Christmas gifts as well.
Popcorn garlands
This year, my family brought back a tradition that my mom and grandma used to do with their families, which is stringing popcorn and cranberry garlands. My mom and I spend hours threading popcorn and cranberries on a fishing line while listening to Christmas music, which is something I will remember forever.
Christmas Eve
On Christmas Eve, my family has each kid open one of their Christmas gifts. Usually, it’s a pair of Christmas PJs to wear that night and open our presents in the morning. Then, we read a Christmas book and watch a Christmas movie together.
Christmas Day
On Christmas day, my entire family gets together. All my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and parents gather at one person’s house and we celebrate Christmas together. We exchange gifts, eat dinner, and spend time with each other, which is definitely my favorite part of the holidays.
